If you have landed here, you probably A. are having some significant issues with your dog, or B. want to get great results training your dog.
The techniques I teach in this course are what I initially teach ALL of my clients who work with me for dog training in Portland, Oregon.
Years ago, I was struggling with my crazy dog and his leash reactivity. I dreaded taking him out. It really sucked walking my dog because he was zig-zagging on walks, barking at everyone, embarrassing to take out, and aggressive. Basically, he was walking me. Back then he had no obedience skills and I wasn’t quite sure how to have a smooth experience with him, without bribing him with treats every 5 seconds. Also, he was way more interested in being crazy than the treats I was offering so I was really at a loss. Do you relate to any of this?
Some of you might be struggling with similar situations. I sympathize because I know how emotional it can be when things aren’t going well. I think I can safely say, that all of us got dogs so we could take them out and enjoy them. What I learned back then (when I was overwhelmed and at the end of my rope), was that I had to have the right tools and training techniques. I tried positive reinforcement only training and only got minimal results. However, I eventually learned how to calm my dog down with a prong collar and these obedience techniques I teach in this course. The turnaround in him was pretty incredible. Now walks are a breeze and he listens so well.
Our dogs really just want to be with us and please us. But we have to give them direction and show them what we want and what behaviors are appropriate or inappropriate. And the problem for most people is… they don’t know how to speak to their dog, in their dog’s own language. So there is a major communication gap. Imagine trying to ride a horse with no bridal and bit in it’s mouth? That’s what most people are doing when they take their dogs out into the world. They have the weakest tool on their dog and again the results are… minimal.
Are you using a harness with your dog?
If you are struggling with your dog on walks and with basic obedience, and you are only using a harness? You’ll want to pick this course up and get the theory and techniques that will change everything for the better.
My online course is a great option to help you get results on your own without spending a ton of money on in person dog training…
Do you need to train your dog up and get some more control when you take them out?
Are you sometimes frustrated by your dog’s lack of focus? Does your dog not really listen to you, or do your walks suck?
My online course is designed for you to take your training to the next level. What I have never been able to stand, are complex dog training systems that leave you confused and frustrated.
I believe dog training shouldn’t be that complicated – otherwise it’s not as sustainable to keep up. I have discovered, a simple no non-sense approach is the key. My course helps you to start talking to your dog in their own language – which vastly improves your communication with them.
Over the last 10 years, I’ve refined a system that cuts through the confusion, and gets to the heart of why your dog does what they do. If you can understand what drives their biology, in addition to having tools and simple techniques to work with them, you’ve got a winning formula.
It comes down to one word: Relevancy. If your dog doesn’t find you more relevant than the squirrel across the street or the dog barking behind the fence, they won’t listen. My “Calm on Command” system uses Drive Theory— to understand your dog’s natural drives—and helps you shift things to make you the most important thing in their world.
When that shift happens, they start to listen, and your life gets easier.
My “Calm on Command” course is a step-by-step guide that takes the guesswork out of the process.
Enroll with the peace of mind that I’ll give you a full refund within 30 days, no questions asked, if it doesn’t work for you.

Imagine what life would be like if you had a little more control with your dog?
Now, imagine what life would be like if you had A LOT more control with them?
How would your life improve if your dog was better trained?
Most of my clients are extremely surprised to see how well their dogs do with this style of training. Some people describe it as a therapy session for their dog. Others just describe it as a practical approach that gives them more freedom and peace of mind.
Many people misunderstand how to really train dogs. They make it way too complicated. A dog that actually listens to you in real world situations when you need it most. If you have only tried Pure Positive Reinforcement Training or (PPO), do yourself a favor, and try this too. Balanced training has saved so many dogs lives. And helped owners to gain the control needed to not feel like their dogs are always running the show. It’s a simple approach that gets dogs to listen better.
Balanced dog training uses both negative AND positive reinforcement. Some people find the negative reinforcement is so powerful they can ditch the treat pouch all together after a while. And some people still get benefit from using food reward. It’s really up to you to find that balance.
We don’t want to completely dominate our dogs, but we want to be in harmony with them and have a system of communication that’s effective. My philosophy is: the more we build trust and communication, the more freedom and fun outings we can actually give our dogs.
That’s why so many of my clients come to me frustrated and at the end of their rope. I have spend the last decade figuring out the best methods for dog training that help people go from their dog being out of control, to being in harmony with them. This prong collar conditioning course will give you the freedom you’re looking for without you having to do a ton of confusing research online.
I have all of the information here to get started. Also an option to book some Zoom consultations with me too if you want some extra accountability and support.
But what if you’ve hesitated about using a prong collar or have heard bad things about it?
Don’t worry you can use a slip-lead too. Even if you only use a head halter, or regular collar and leash, some of these techniques will be useful. I would not however use a harness and leash. The best results will be with a prong collar or slip lead.
Prong collars are actually pretty awesome. I must admit, that years ago I did not understand them. I thought they looked more barbaric than anything else. It looks like they might hurt the dog. They don’t however. They distribute an even pressure around a dog’s neck and ultimately the dog gets to decide how much pressure they feel. However, I explain how to do this work gently, so you can properly condition them in a way that brings ease and freedom. If you are struggling, a prong collar is a game-changer. That’s why so many people love them.
Can you use another collar? Yes. You can effectively do this course with a slip-lead. You can also use a head halter or regular collar and leash but it won’t be as powerful. I’ll go over what collar to get in the course and how to properly fit it.
One of my clients came to be with a leash reactive dog that she had kept at home for 13 years. The dog was older and she didn’t know that many of these behaviors like leash reactivity could be easily stopped with this style of training. We worked with the methods I teach in this course. In a few sessions there was a huge breakthrough. Her dog became calm and relaxed on walks and stopped barking at everyone. I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to go with them to the Vancouver waterfront and watch their world open up. Most people got dogs to take them out places and enjoy them, but we have to be speaking the same language with our dogs otherwise it can be difficult.
Many of my clients have been able to increase their communication skills with with their dogs enabling them to take their dogs out in public. That is so huge! So many people struggle with out of control dogs. If this is you, you can change things around starting today.

Best dog training in Portland, with effective approaches toward behavioral issues and puppy training.Posted on Purple GimpTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My husband and I tried *everything* to get our Labradoodle, Luna, to calm down enough to be able to take her on walks, and to the dog park, and other places, but she saw every person, dog, car, and truck, and even leaves, as an immediate threat. She would go from sweet to crazy at the drop of a hat, and taking her anywhere was so stressful we finally stopped trying until a good friend told us about Ren, and her incredible affinity with dogs. To say she's changed our lives would be a vast understatement. Not only has Ren helped Luna understand that it's not her job to try and alert, and defend, to everything in the universe, but Ren also worked patiently with us, and helped us learn the tools we needed to create, and reinforce, a positive, healthy, relationship, with Luna. It's like she's a completely different dog now. She is so much happier, and we're definitely happier too. We can't thank Ren, and Balanced Pack K9 Tra🐕ining, enough. Take a leap of faith and reach out to her if you're ready to change your relationship with your dog in a way that brings happier, less stressful, days to all of you. You'll be glad you did. Thanks, Ren. Luna says hi. 😊 🐕 😊Posted on Kevin ColeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We’re so happy we found Ren and got her to help us. Our beloved Otis was very much in need of behavioral guidance and she provided it with clear, direct advice and training methods. Actually, in many ways, my wife and I needed the training as much as he did. Ren gave us the tools and insights we need to help him become a more obedient pet, and a happier one, too. We were very impressed with her knowledge and experience, and her innate dog sense. Our relationship with Otis has definitely changed for the better, and we are well on our way to becoming a truly “balanced pack.” And if and when we need more help we know where to turn. We highly recommend Ren!Posted on Colleen WrightTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We adopted a 3 year old, surrendered Saint Bernard who had not had any socialization or training, and had severe anxiety and dog reactivity issues. We worked with 2 different trainers who solely used positive reinforcement techniques, which helped a little but not enough with our big girl. After a year, I was at my breaking point. Nessie had pulled me off my feet and dragged me down the sidewalk, she lunged at a small child on the other side of the street because in the dim dusk light she thought it was a dog, I pulled my knee out twice when she dragged me down the street. Walks were stressful and I found myself angry at Nessie all the time. I was considering rehoming her. And then I started researching e-collar training and found Ren. In just 3 weeks, Nessie no longer reacts to other dogs. She heels and doesn't pull me down the street. She listens to commands and doesn't ignore me. Yesterday, I took her to a community event for the first time and she not only behaved herself perfectly with the other dogs and people, but while we ate she laid down, didn't beg us for food, and didn't try to climb up on the table. She is becoming the dog I was hoping for. I wish I would have started with Ren in the first place, I regret listening to all those naysayers about e-collar training. It works! And we are all much happier with each other as a result. I can't recommend Ren enough!Posted on Max LewisTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ren is a true gem in the world of dog training, deserving nothing short of a glowing 5-star review. Her compassion and thoughtfulness are unparalleled, evident in every session my partner and I had with her. Ren's unique background as a chaplain brings an extraordinary depth to her approach. She intuitively understands not only the needs of our sweet boy, Dexter, but also our emotional needs as dog parents in dealing with a reactive dog. Ren helped us confirm that Dexter is, indeed, a particularly challenging dog, which REALLY helped with our sanity in questioning our own actions. It’s hard not to blame yourself when you’ve tried so many different tactics in dog training and haven't gotten any results. The transformation we've witnessed is nothing short of remarkable. While he's still on his journey, the progress is tangible. The instances where Dexter walks by other dogs without reacting are becoming more and more frequent. Let this be a testament to Ren's effective methods and dedication! What sets Ren apart is her holistic approach to training, considering not just the dog's behavior but also the emotional dynamics of the human-canine relationship. Her ability to blend expertise with genuine care is a game-changer. We're immensely grateful for the positive impact Ren has had on Dexter and our lives as dog parents. If you're seeking a compassionate, thoughtful, and highly effective canine coach, Ren is the absolute best choice.Posted on Tyler ShipleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ren is amazing! Ren had our dog for the two week board and train program and the pup that came out of the program was a totally different dog - calmer, no pulling, focused on us, and more. Even more importantly, Ren trained and taught us what we needed to be doing and why, her instructions helped us be the owners our dog needed and I use her teachings every day! We are very active outdoors and wanted to be able have a mutual trust that our dog wouldn’t run off and would be safe in outdoor spaces where he’s permitted to be off leash. Because of Ren, shrimp gets to enjoy a life of freedom camping, fishing, and hiking! Can you believe that we can fly fish and he will watch from the bank? We are constantly impressed by him and it’s because of Ren! Highly recommend!Posted on Katie WoodTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ren and her training program has been a game changer for our family. Our dog is now a well behaved dog who knows how to act in all situations. We as a family also learned how to handle our dog in a manner that helps him understand who the leader is. We started seeing improvement after the first lesson. If you’re looking for someone to help teach your dog how to follow commands and behave this is your trainer! She is kind, thorough, and the dogs respect her instantly. We learned so much and so did our dog!Posted on Becca MartinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ren is AMAZING! Our dog Moose was very leash reactive, an anxious mess, and very hyper vigilant of all things going on. We could not even take him for walks. We have been to multiple vets, trainers, and even a certified vet behaviorist. He didn’t respond well to the training and the behaviorist just gave us meds and basically said “avoid everything”. To be honest, we were very nervous to do a board and train for Moose as he is already highly anxious, but after speaking with Ren, we decided it would be good for him. She walked us through what it would look like for Moose and kept us updated each day. By day 3, Moose went to a thrift store with Ren and I COULD NOT believe that even happened! Never in a million years would I thought Moose could go to a store, but Ren did that! He has been a CHANGED dog since he came home. We can now take him on walks, he has a much less anxious demeanor, and he is listening to commands 1000 times better. Yes, we are putting in a lot of work to keep up with what Ren taught him (and us), but she is a million times worth it as she laid a solid foundation for Moose and gave my husband and I the knowledge and tools to be able to handle and continue training Moose. Moose is still the same sweet dog that he was before his training, but is now much calmer and more manageable. We cannot recommend her enough.Posted on Bethany ErhardtTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My partner and I could not recommend Ren more! We have a very anxious and fence reactive dog, and Ren was able to teach us the skills to manage his anxiety. When Ren came to the first session, we could barely talk with her because our dog was barking so much. After that session, he was a complete angel around her - she really knows her stuff! We learned that most of his challenges were due to our lack of structure and boundaries, and now we know how to be effective pack leaders! We couldn’t believe our dog’s skills by the last session and we’re so excited to continue working with him now that Ren has taught us how. 10/10 recommend for anyone with an anxious, reactive, or difficult dog! Ren is also incredible and really took the time to teach us the psychology behind each skill, which we appreciated 😊Posted on Brittany van der SalmTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ren really helped us with our newer dog who needed the right kind of training to stay, lay down, crate, and on recall. Other trainings did not help us as quickly or effectively as her methods have. We are so grateful!

This course is about creating a dream relationship with your dog. It will help you to start communicating with them in their language. It will also give you a completely different way of approaching your dog’s psychology – you’ll get a ton of theory to help you understand how your dog thinks and why they behave the way they do. More importantly, how you can start to shift your dog’s behaviors so you can get better stuff from them.
This is your key to “public access. Taking your dog out in public. Sit, down, heel, and stay command all to navigate them calmly through the world.
I’m a fan of “micro-sessions.” 10–15 minutes of focused work every day is better than an hour of frustration. This system is built for busy people. But take 1-2 months to really work on this material to see huge shifts. Real transformation takes consistency and time.
Going back to the webinar presentation I did… (which you can get if you opt into my mailing list) that just means you have a particular relationship dynamic with your dog. Your dog has most likely practiced “getting away with stuff” for a very long time. If you do this course step by step it will give you power. But, you have to believe that transformation is possible!
Most people have only tried “pure positive only” training (PPO). Positive reinforcement is super important for dog training, but works best in a balanced training approach. If dogs have problem behaviors like pulling us on walks, leash reactivity, lunging, jumping and an inability to sit still, it’s best to address that stuff with balanced training. Often in PPO owners end up rewarding their dogs for bad behaviors instead of addressing them or knowing how to work with them. On the flip side, many balanced training approaches are far too harsh for my taste. The techniques I use are really gentle and effective for getting dogs to calm down and look up to us as leaders.
I’d say to wait until your puppy is 5 or 6 months for this course. I actually recommend starting them young so that you don’t have a lot of behaviors that get out of control as they get older. As far as an older dog, drive theory is based on biology, and that doesn’t expire with age. I’ve trained some very old dogs with this method and gotten great results. See above for my story of a 13 year old dog client that stopped her leash reactivity with these course techniques. I think it also speaks to the gentleness of my balanced training techniques.
Yes! Although you can absolutely use a regular collar and leash with this course, I recommend you do it with a prong collar for the best results.
You can also use a slip-lead with good results, but you’ll get the best results with a prong collar. So many people are talking about how their dog’s behaviors drastically improved for the better when using a prong collar. The instructions on which collar to buy are in the course!
It’ll be the most weak with a harness and leash. It’s crazy to me that this is the most recommended tool from vets, rescues and shelter agencies. Think about it like this… I want to compare dog training to horseback riding. We do not just throw a saddle on a horse, jump on and hope for the best. We want to put a tool on the head of the animal for better control. So we use a bit/bridal for the safest rides. Similar with dog training, using a slip lead, head halter, and my ultimate favorite, a prong collar is best for the most control.
